older train on fastrack?
« on: November 30, 2019, 07:31:11 pm »
Put my old Christmas train on a new Fastrack setup from Harry Potter Bluetooth set.  It went backwards at a high rate of speed.  Getting the feeling that there may be a compatibility problem.  Any thoughts or solutions would be welcome.  Thanks.

The track would not cause your train to run backwards. All trains of any age will run properly on Fastrack.
First, check the direction switch on the locomotive if it has one. It may be locked in reverse.
If you are using a remote, check to see that it is not set to run the train in reverse.

How old is your train, and what is the stock number of the Christmas train you are running?

The manual says 72-1944-250 and 4/01.
Christmas Train
When I placed the train on the live track, it instantly went at a very high rate of speed, such that it would have run off the track.
Let me see if i understand the basics here.  The old train speed was controlled by the voltage or amperage rendered by the control box through the track.  The new train (Harry Potter) seems to be controlled by bluetooth signals to the engine and the track voltage remains constant.  Is the above correct?  If so, how would one control the speed of the old engine?  A conundrum.
Thanks for your insights.

Are you using the wall plug or a transformer?

You are correct about the basics. Running conventional trains by remote needs more equipment. See here https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/conventional-operation-with-remote for a post on that subject.
