Question about light binding post of Lional #53
« on: January 02, 2018, 10:41:35 pm »
I have an early NY Central #53 Switch engine that is missing the PWBP Light Binding Post. I'm not sure what its' purpose is or how it should be wired. I have seen various posts listed for sale, and I have photos of what it should look like. I would appreciate any information on this part that is available. The other end of the engine has a pedestal  headlight with no socket. Is there a wiring diagram available and/or a socket part number?  --TIA

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!
I've attached a photo of Lionel #53, as you can see, a Rio Grande Snowplow.
Could you post a photo of your Lionel #53? it will help identify it and the problem.

Happy Rails!

Mine is from the early 1900s, perhaps around 1915. This is a photo of what mine looks like. The light binding post is on the right side in front of the bell. This is from a diagram which was posted online. Here is a link to the diagram. I can't upload in this reply due to an error message saying the upload folder is full.  http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=967

OK, Standard Guage  #53  0-4-0  not quite the same as the other Lionel  #53.
it appears the binding post may be able to be replaced with a small flatheaded bolt & nut.
What its purpose was?  Can't even make a guess at that one.

The dummy light, if you can find a replacement part it should be a straight forward replacement.  If not, consider installing a LED in the dummy.
