Lionel steam engine from my childhood
« on: September 21, 2013, 07:47:42 am »
when we were kids in the early '50's my older brother had a Lionel steam engine and a whistling tender. the thing I remember is that the red keystone on the front of the boiler had intertwined "PRR" lettering. All the pictures of engines I've seen posted on line have numerals, not lettering, on the keystone. Is my imagination playing tricks on me, or was there an actual steam engine model that had that type of keystone? that engine is long gone, unfortunately, but my brother is still around and I'd like to get him that model engine as a present, so please don't tell me it's now a rare collector's item worth thousands of smackers.  ;)

Hello & Welcome to the Forum.

I did a little searching and found 4 Post War Locomotives that fit your description:

681 & 671      6-8-6 PRR Pennsylvania Steam Turbine
2035      2-6-4  K-4 Pacific
2025     2-6-2  K-4 Pacific
There are no doubt others,
Colombia/Scout in the 2-4-2 wheel arrangement.

The 2035 is the difficult one to find, but all  of them should be available at one of the online auction sites.

Good Luck!

Dave
