Lionmaster 2-6-6-4 problems
« on: September 28, 2013, 09:42:03 pm »
Bought a Lionmaster 2-6-6-4 N&W recently at swap meet. Has never smoked since first day, now I am not getting "chuffing" sounds. I am not running TMCC, so have no way from manual to reset the defaults. Very new with the newer type engines ( to me anyway) , have always run older post war models, so have no experience with repair of the newer electrical stuff. I've changed battery, no help, have msg sent to Lionel, no response yet, no service center within 250 miles of my location. Any ideas to help me out? Much thanks.

Lee,
Here's a link to the online manual:
http://www.lionel.com/media/servicedocuments/73-8049-250.pdf

see page 3,  section 2,  note.
also page 5.

Thanks for reply. I have the manual, smoke unit is turned on per page 5, Start up is normal per page 3, only when the unit starts to move I get no "chuffing sounds", sounds remain as if unit is still in neutral. This is something that has developed since I have been running the engine. Whistle and bell function normal.

Lee,
Sorry that wasn't much help.
You might try doing a complete by the manual start up of the locomotive,
and making certain you have a hot battery  in place and all the switches
where  they're supposed to be, if you haven't already.
I'm not certain of your location, so can't make a recommendation of someone
local or nearby who might be able to offer assistance in real-space.
Maybe someone will chime in with an answer for you.

I'm located in southern middle Tennessee, only authorized shop around in Huntsville Al., and no longer have a tech so no help. Again thanks, and hopefully something will happen. Going to try a restart again, if I had TMCC on it, shows a way to reset all values to default, but doesn't show how to do that running straight from transformer. Still trying to make up mind on TMCC or DCS. Luck me, at lest I'm going to get to start from a fresh new page instead of rebuilding an old layout.
