Possible burnt board on 0-8-0
« on: December 11, 2020, 01:42:19 pm »
I have a Tmcc 0-8-0 switcher, they locomotive was Inadvertently places on DC LionMaster track, a polar express set I had set up for my Nephew, guess he though the old berk was not big enough. Any ways it didn’t stay long but I did get white smoke and the horrible smell of burned electronics. Right now it trips the transformer on the AC track. I’ve inspected the boards I do not see any damage. Any ideas what may have burned up?

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear of your dilemma, but it sounds like the board is toast. If you saw smoke, the electronics burned - witness the transformer circuit breaker trips. Time for a replacement board.

The Lionel product number is needed to start the search.

Here is the parts diagram for your loco.
https://www.lionelsupport.com/ReplacementParts/index.cfm?doAction=productPartFilter&number=6208701001&productID=99a31493-ea24-4385-b413-d20c9c31117a

There are multiple boards in it, and with no obvious sign of burning, testing each board is needed, and this is for the factory to do.

At this point in time, call Lionel for an RA number, and ship it to them for repair.

The burnt smell is definitely coming from 35 and or 38. I’ve sent an email off to Lionel to see what they have to say, thank you very much for your help

Choose your state and contact an authorized Lionel Dealer. They should be able to direct you how to get your loco repaired.

Well I’ve tried calling and emailing Lionel, even contacted the most local Lionel service center. I ordered the parts from Lionel and never even got a confirmation email back from them. I am a little confused is this a normal behavior from Lionel?

I would think that Lionel should respond within a reasonable period of time, but my guess is that  with this pandemic, they may be short staffed at this time.
