Changing bulbs

How do you all change the bulbs in items such as crossing lights and bumpers etc. etc. ? I cannot get  grasp on them.

No guarantee, but I have heard of slipping an appropriate sized piece of rubber/flexible plastic tubing that will fit tightly on the bulb, then use/twist the tube to unscrew/screw in the bulb.
