Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Lionel 2332 Pennsylvania GG1 Assembly
« Last post by rjdmbriggs on January 07, 2024, 11:27:31 am »
I have been given a 2332. I disassembled it to check lubrication. I admittedly did not pay attention to placement of the horn and resonator box. Now I can't fit the horn and resonator box into the engine. Can anyone show me an assembly drawing of this engine. I've seen diagrams of this engine with a vertical motor. My engine has the motor mounted on an angle horizontally. I would appreciate any help.

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Lionel 202 Motor Bearing Plate Fix
« Last post by kbuhagiar on January 06, 2024, 07:16:20 pm »
Hello Folks, this is my first post...it's great to be here!

I'm a long time model railroad enthusiast but I was just recently grandfathered into Lionel O-gauge through inheritance of my brother-in-law's gear.
It's been a couple of weeks now, and I think I'm hooked!

Anyway, I have a postwar 202 diesel locomotive. Runs great one direction, barely moves in the other. I confirmed it has the famed motor bearing plate shift. I read the Lionel service bulletin which advises to stake the case on either side to remove the slack. Before I proceed are there any other alternative/better fixes?

I don't mind staking the case but I thought I'd check first.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers, Ken

Trains Marketplace - Buy & Sell Here! / Selling my collection - 3 sets from the 1970s
« Last post by cbackman on January 05, 2024, 12:13:47 pm »
I have 3 sets that I have kept since I got them in 1975-76. I also have additional track, a few electric switches, a coal station and a couple of bridges. The sets are the Sante Fe Double Diesel, the Yard King, and the Southern Express. I don't have the original boxes for most things but Most things are in great shape and all the engines operate.

I live in South West Florida and will box and ship them (at the lowest shipping cost I can find).

I'd like to get $150 plus shipping.

Message me for more details.

Also found a switch that was shorting the track. After 30+ years it is running once again.

I thought for sure these trains ran on DC. Switched the multimeter to AC and all of a sudden I have voltage. Nothing seems to be wrong with the transformer. Now need to see why the engines won't run. They may need some more TLC.

I was wondering if such a thing existed as well.  Please let me know if you find anything!

Power & Control / Limited power from LW transformer
« Last post by Bope on December 27, 2023, 02:27:00 pm »
I am trying to resurrect my train set from my childhood. It probably has not been set up for at least 30 years. It is an O gauge that my father bought in the early '60's. I hooked up the LW transformer and you can hear the engine gets some power when turning on the transformer and the light in the bumper at the end of a siding fluctuates depending on the controller position. If I put a multimeter on the variable output or the constant 18V or 14V posts I get no reading. Again I can hook the constant voltages to the track and the bumper lights up but the train engine just hums a little. Any idea what could be wrong with the transformer? It must be putting out some current but not enough for the multimeter to read. I did put the meter on a battery and it read 1.5V so it is not the meter.

The kids and I set everything up only to learn our transformer has some sort of issue. Christmas eve and no chance of finding another.

Is this something I might be able to fix? I know enough to be dangerous but am capable of disassembly, soldering, light troubleshooting, etc.

This video should tell the whole story, but basically on a workbench with no load and a voltmeter hooked up it seems to operate fine. With the train when just plugged in it seems to work fine, but then after a minute or two it will stop, the voltage will drop, and the output will "stutter" on and off a bit, and basically just not work. Sometimes knocking it on the side will cause it to work again for a few moments.

I've taken it apart and nothing seems loose or wrong that I can see.

Only thing to add is that the other output does the same thing. All the fixed voltage outputs read as they should (although did not check under load). Does the same thing on two engines (a Williams and a 90's Lionel).

Help save Christmas! :)
