please school me on switchs
« on: January 08, 2014, 07:58:54 am »
I am attempting to design a layout for a very small area. I looking to utilize two switch track to have the train run both loops on a single run. what I'm looking to do it have the switch automatically switch every other lap so it takes the inside loop on 1st pass and then the outside loop on the second pass and back to the 1st again... I want this to be done automatically. Is this possible? BTW, I'm using "O" Fastrack.
I hope I explained this well enough. lol

Thanks in advance... Rick

That is very easy to do with O31 switches and tubular. I am unfamiliar with fastrack, however, if there are three wires connected to the motor for the activator/controller, then all you need to do is this:

Hook up a single controller to the switch, next, run two wires to the next switch. These wires attach to the outside conection posts on the first switch. Whe you connect the wires to the second switch, the connection is to the opposite connection post. One switch controller activates two switches and the switches should switch trains from one loop to other automatically.

Thanks for you help, but I'm not sure about the terminals on them as I don't currently own them. I don't want to buy expensive parts until I'm sure they will work.

here is what I currently have:

Here is what I am attempting to accomplish:

Hello & Welcome to the Forum.

I'm a tubular track-ster, but fortunately Trainz.com has a wonderful Guide to Lionel Fastrack....
Seriously...
Enjoy the read, it's more than I ever wanted to know about Fastrack:

http://www.trainz.com/t-fastrack_guide.aspx

(I am NOT suggesting anyone purchase from trainz.com, this is not a commercial endorsement for their business.)

Happy Rails!

If you want to put the Lionel Fastrack Switches on your layout, all you need to do is purchase the remote switch. However, in order to use a pattern, you will need the Legacy or Cab 1 attached to an Accessory Interface Unit.
