arron, glad to see you are making some progress with your trains. You can hook the wires directly to your track, but you should get a lockon http://www.lionel.com/Products/Finder/ProductDetail.cfm?ProductNumber=6-24213&expandBranch=0&Keywords=&CategoryID=532&RailLineID=&CatalogId= for the track.
