Hello everyone... New guy with a box of stuff
« on: July 20, 2017, 07:41:54 am »
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Mike Turner and I live in Meridian, MS.
I recently got a box of Lionel train goodies at the antique store. Inside the box was a 2026, 2-6-2 with the 6466 Tender, a 1656, 0-4-0 switcher with the 2403 tender, a dozen or so pieces of 027 track and an old transformer. No cars, just the engines and track. Looks like all date to about 1948 - 1949.
The engines need a good cleaning and lubing, There is some rust here and there.
I have been surfing the net to see what the complete engines look like so I can tell if the engines are complete or not. I can see I need a few small parts.
I hope I can find the restoration info I need here and possibly a source of parts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards to all,

Mike

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!
Nice score, I love the 2026. Looks like it's missng the front truck, but otherwise it appears to be in good shape.
A little rust and chips, shows the play it has seen over the years.
Clean her up, lube her and put her on the rails.

The transformer, make sure the cord is in good condition, if not replace it.

The 1656, clean her up, lube her and put her on the rails.

3 rail track is readily available, both new and used.

Check out the Lione Maintenance & Repair sub-forum. You shoud find what you need to know about cleaning and lube there.

For parts, see Forum Member Bill Hennings web site, Hennings trains.
There are other shops/sites too, but am puttng in a plug for a fellow forum member.

We look forward to your coming adventures. Keep us posted.

Happy Rails!

Thanks for the welcome Dave.
Yes, I have been looking around some it it sure looks like the track is out there to be had.
I appreciate the tip for the parts source. I will be ordering some fix-er-up parts soon.

Have a great day.

Mike
