A couple/few questions
« on: July 05, 2015, 10:42:01 am »
First off a slight introduction. I received an O-27 set from my Grandfather. Box and all. It is the Black River Freight. The locomotive is an 8602. He used to set it up during Christmas when I was a kid. I had not seen this train for over 20 years. When I asked him about it he gave it to me with the promise I will keep it forever which I plan to. I got it up and running and it is awesome.

Now first question. It does not seem to have a lot of power. I found an old car at an antique store and it has a metal frame on the bottom and when I placed it in line with the cars I got a whole lot of nothing. Is this normal for this locomotive and that is why all the cars are plastic?

Second. What is post war and pre war besides the obvious? One made before WWII and one made after. Was there something special?

Third. If I extend the track, what are the power add on things I was reading about to keep the power all the way around. I found a good train store but I cannot spend 24-7 there learning about my train.

Fourth. Should I stick with the old tube track or move to the new fast track? I have found out that they are doing away with the tube track.

I am sure I will have more questions later.

Thanks

Chris

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!

The 8602 is a basic locomotive,  if it has been cleaned and lubricated properly, should have plenty of power to pull several cars quite well.  If yours has traction tires and they're missing, that might explain the lack of power.

Pre/Post War saw a change from tinplate & die cast to plastic & die cast after WW2 for the manufacture of trains.

To add additional power feeds to tubular track you use a "Lock On".

I prefer tubular track, but it's a chevy vrs. ford type question....

I hope this shed's a little light in the tunnel for you.

Happy Rails!
