Foam board on plywood layout
« on: November 22, 2019, 04:32:12 pm »
I decided  to run to Lowes and pick up some 3/4 inch green insulation board to screw down to the top of the plywood table layout. i think it will be a smoother surface and sound muffler. Are other people thinking the same way ???

The foam board may be a smoother surface, but when you screw the track down through it into the plywood, the vibrations will transmit into the plywood through the screws. It may reduce the sound level some, but not completely.

Try using liquid nails to glue it down.  You will need to add some weight on top to press it down relatively smooth and to insure good adhesion.  Let it dry overnight.

I agree on the liquid nails.   I am in the process of adding to my layout.  In that process I am removing a lot of the foam i put down years ago using liquid nails.   It is tough to get up sometimes.  So just be aware if you use it use what you need and little more just in case you ever decide to have a do over.

I use 1/2" sound board glued down to 7/16" OSB- I had the Fastrack screwed down to it, but it still was quiet.
