I decided  to run to Lowes and pick up some 3/4 inch green insulation board to screw down to the top of the plywood table layout. i think it will be a smoother surface and sound muffler. Are other people thinking the same way

Try using liquid nails to glue it down.  You will need to add some weight on top to press it down relatively smooth and to insure good adhesion.  Let it dry overnight.
