I have been a collector of vintage Lionel trains for nearly 25 years and have been a member of the Lionel Collectors Club in the UK for over 20 years.

I have a pair of pre-war no. 2640 & 2641 passenger cars in a most unusual color combination, that according to my Lionel reference books and online Internet information, simply shouldn’t exist. The passenger cars are gray, with blue roofs and silver window frames (see attached photo). They do not appear to have been re-painted and both the inside and underside of the cars is gray.

I was just curious to know if anyone has seen these cars in this color combination before or whether they are some kind of Lionel factory error perhaps.

Thank you,

Alan
