train wont move

well I got a 424 and got power on the track and cant get the train to move so I bought a 246 and cant get it to go I cleaned the track with a 3m pad and wiped with alcohol and tonight I touched the wires to the center conductor and the outside wheel and the train wheels go around any ideas im stumped

Do the lights come on when you place the trains on the track? Move the reverse unit lever to see if the loco is not locked in neutral.

Make sure the wheels and pickups are clean and free from dirt and oil.

What transformer are you using to power your trains?
