Modification of Visionline GG
« on: July 26, 2017, 02:22:39 pm »
Does anyone know of a source to convert or modify a visoline GG so it can   run on 060 rather than 072 stock?
I Understand about the warrantee implications but would like to know if anyone can do?

Thank You,
Lee

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!

The GG1 is a beautiful locomotive and one I would like to own myself.
The drawback for me is the 20 inch length and the necessary 072 curves to run it on.
I don't believe there is anything you can do to modify it run on the 060 or lesser radius curves.
You could  remove the front & rear trucks, then it might run on the lesser curves.
Whether you could pull a consist with it and have it stay on the track would be another question.

The other option is to purchase an RMT version of the GG1 which is 14 inches long and will run on 036 curves.

Happy Rails.

Thank You Dave...Truly appreciate your advice....I will Begin the search.
But In reality I was looking for the Legacy Features and functionality that the RMT apears not to offer.

I wonder if Lionel is planning anything for smaller than 072....like 060?

Any idea of a Lionel Engine series numbe I should look for?

In the end I was really hoping the front and rear trucks coul be modified in terms of turning radius, but I really do not know enough to judge that.

Here's the link to the RMT web site, GG1 page.
Their price is quite reasonable.
These are the K-line/ Lionel locomotives.
They don't have many left, so order one asap if you want one.
