Mixing Lionchief Plus & MTH RailKing Engines on same track
« on: March 05, 2019, 03:19:14 pm »
A buddy and I have been building a layout and decided to budget for LionChief Plus engines and the occasional MTH RailKing in order to keep costs down. We recently added a new MTH engine to our inventory (their Pennsy "10 Wheeler). We installed the MTH DCS Explorer and their z1000 brick. Everything runs great together, except for one LC+ engine: a recently purchased (new) 0-4-0 NYC switcher (6-84966). It's a neat little workhorse that will get a lot o use as the yard is fleshed out. However, whenever it's on the track the z1000 internal breaker trips. Engine runs great with the Lionel 72 watt DC power pack. Other LC+ engines work just fine, even while running on the same track as the MTH engine. Before we added the MTH, running just on the LC 72 watt supply we could run two LC+ and LC engines at a time with no problem.

Any idea why this little guy draws so much power? Is that normal for this engine?
