Hi, everyone! My name is Rob and I'm an electrician from Massachusetts. I got my Lionel Union Pacific 'Thunder Freight' set for Christmas '82. I don't have space for a permanent layout in my condo, but enjoy setting up and running my train anyway... My father, two brothers, and nephew are into Lionel trains as well.
I'm interested in restoring the tender for my Lionel Union Pacific train, and a hopper car.
Anyways... I'm looking forward to being active on this board!
Hi everyone. My name is Ray and I just registered today. I am a retired cabinet maker and live in N Illinois. Last fall I was able to get hold of an old 1930s vintage Lionel set that had belonged to my father-in law. I had the engine worked over and now it runs nice. Since that time I've picked up a couple of additional cars for the set that I think are correct for that time.

I am modelling in TT scale (1/120) and that's why, when you start SCARM for the first time, it will show the BTTB TT library by default

Hey Guys,
My name is Mike and I'm from NEPA. Use to mess around with HO trains a bit many years ago (20-25), but stopped once everything was lost in a flood. Now that I have kids I feel like there should be a train under the tree. Have a nice sized Lionel dealer here who I deal with in my business so I've decided to go with Lionel O scale for that reason. Decided I'll probably pick up one of the all in one fasttrack sets to start for them. While looking around for the kids, I also started thinking maybe I'd get into it a bit and add a layout to my "man cave" to keep up year round. Look forward to chatting with you guys and picking your brains as I have no idea what I'm getting myself into! lol

Hello Everyone,
My name is Mark. I'm 61 and just joined the forum. I just started back up with model railroading about 9 months ago after retiring a second time. I decided to put up a ceiling/wall train setup and chose the the O Scale due to the size. It started in my hobby room with the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express. I then punched a couple of small holes in the wall and extended it out into the living room. Needless to say my wife and I are really looking forward to decorating for Christmas this year. The grandkids went nuts when I showed them the setup.
I have also extended the collection adding a Pennsylvania General train, Polar Express train, a Santa Fe Super Chief and of course a Lionel Christmas train. I just joined the Lionel Collector's Club of America. I decided to join the forum to get some insights on the "doing it right" aspect. Eventually I will be adding a garden railroad setup.

My name is Gayl. My wife,adult son and I are addicted to antique mall crawling.We are usually in search of breweriana,automobilia,sporting goods,and tableware. I have been meaning to find a nice start to model railroad collecting but until recently never found the right item.I had countless HO sets as a child and a couple as an adult,my dad had an N scale set (i still have) and my son in law has an enormous N scale layout so we are not totally new to model railroading. I hate to pay full retail for stuff so in my case these trips end up being a hunt for pieces that the seller really doesn't appreciate the value of. Yesterday I was able to purchase a post war 1609 set for $26.50. The track,transformer,loco,caboose,hopper car are present and accounted for but the gondola is MIA with a 3330 flat car with what seem to be submarine retaining wires in it's place. The set came with several pieces of extra track some old catalogs and manuals and a cross track piece.No original box but packaged in an 80's era track expansion set box. Not exactly top of the line stuff but I'm thrilled with the set and have another new passion to hunt for. The old girl flies around the dining room table nicely and for the price I feel blessed to have it! Thanks for maintaing this forum and allowing the likes of me to sign up !
