Cow catcher on 260E
« on: March 31, 2013, 05:04:11 pm »
I have an old 260E locomotive that belonged to my late father in law. I think its about 1931-32 vintage. It has a cowcatcher that has a coupler. All the 260Es that I've seen so far don't have couplers. Does anyone know if what I have is correct or possibly some add on? It looks original, and just like the non- coupler cowcatchers I see. I think the engine would look better without this coupler coming thru the catcher, but I would hesitate to change it if I knew it was original and correct.

Ray,
I haven't been able to locate a photo of a 260E with a coupler in the cow catcher either.
That doesn't mean that they didn't exist, but I would suspect that was added later.

at a glance i would say its original. i mean look at the machine stamped boss around the opening in the cowcatcher. personally i think the engine looks awesome as-is!
