Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Re: Max pulling power for a postwar 726 rr« Last post by djacobsen on November 18, 2024, 07:41:08 am »Hello & Welcome to the Forum.
My way of telling is to add cars to the consist until the locomitive start spinning it wheels, then removing a car or two. I believe modern cars are heavier that the early tin plate. Hoprle this helps. Happy Rails dave 53

Layout Design Forum / track software for apple« Last post by James M on November 15, 2024, 06:15:47 pm »Currently trying to find track software for apple hardware. I honestly don’t care how old the software is as long it works on classic os9 to modern apple silicon. I have a PowerBook g4 and a mid 2010 MacBook Pro running Monterey via Open code legacy patcher. It has to be free to use all the features. Mainly planning to use it for O gauge tubular track but also planning to use it for Marklin Z gauge. Thanks

Trains Marketplace - Buy & Sell Here! / TMCC diesel engine wanted! Willing to trade« Last post by James M on November 15, 2024, 05:56:20 pm »I have bought a cab 1 remote a 180w powermaster, a command base 1 and have a bunch of postwar engines but now looking to find a Modern tmcc equipped diesel. I am willing to trade some of my engines for a tmcc diesel.
A black 221 with whistle tender. New York central is faded but readable. A 224 with black handrails and a 2466W tender. A Lionel Southern Pacific Gp20 Diesel Engine 18831 with box. I bought this accidentally thinking it had tmcc but it doesn’t. Two prewar maroon 607 Macy special passenger cars. Macy special is legible on one side on each car. If you have a tmcc equipped diesel that you are willing to part with and interested in trading, email me at Gameboy1527@proton.me 56
Lionel Maintenance & Repair / 2245 Texas special horizontal motor truck problems« Last post by James M on November 15, 2024, 01:51:17 pm »So I recently overhauled my Texas special with a new horizontal motor and e unit and everything was working great until last week when it started hesitating in forward but making a loud skipping noise but running fine in reverse. Sometimes it’s the other way around. I pinpointed the problem with the motor truck itself as I tested the motor and it is fine. Instead of both axles on the motor truck moving smoothly one axle skips and moves freely with the motor installed. When I take the motor off from the motor truck the gear end of the shaft is pushing up when I move the motor truck back and forth which is why I think the engine struggles to run in one direction but fine in the other direction. How do I remedy this?

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Lionel 624 shorting out.« Last post by James M on November 15, 2024, 01:32:47 pm »I have been running my 624 and when it was working, two things I noticed during operation was the eunit would sometimes cycle at random, and the pickup rollers would sometimes get hot after running it for hours. A week ago I was getting my 624 back on the track and the engine started making a faint weird noise, the 2 lights wouldn’t shine, the engine wouldn’t run and a lot of sparks flew when I tried moving the engine with my hand. Then the transformer started tripping. I lowered the voltage all the way down and checked to make sure all the wheels were in place and they were, I flipped the engine over and the pickup rollers were really hot! I put the engine back on the track making sure all the wheels were on the track correctly and applied power and got more of the same. I took the shell off and took the pulmor motor off and took two leads from the transformer to the two brushes on the motor and it made a loud hum, but wouldn’t move. I removed the old grease and lubed the motor truck and the motor hole and tried again this time the motor moved a little bit but was pushing up still humming loud. Is it possible I have a bad motor? Or could the short be from the e unit or the pickup rollers? All the original wiring appears to be good and the solder joints are tough.

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Lionel 3461 stopped working« Last post by James M on November 15, 2024, 01:09:38 pm »I figured since this is my first post here I start with a smaller project like my 3461 operating log car. I get a lot of my trains at train shows including the 3461 and it used to work very well, now it’s not showing any sing of life. Tried my postwar operating milkman cars and they work fine as well as trying multiple tubular O Gauge operating track sections, still the 3461 operating log dump car won’t dump any logs. The wires look good and the solder joints look good. I don’t know if there’s anything else that I missed or to check for as far as troubleshooting it.

General Lionel Model Train Discussion / New to lionel o gage, in need of a little help« Last post by Elvisp34 on November 10, 2024, 05:06:27 pm »So I recently decided to try out O scale for my newest layout ,( all previous layouts have been HO scale) I'm using all lionel post war track and accessories. I'm having problems with where I should put the insulator pins on my turnouts. I have about 12 turnouts on the entire layout and can't find any YouTube videos that address the exact issue in facing. I have a couple spots on the layout where I hav two turnouts back to back facing opposite directions and im not sure where to put the pins on the two. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Vapour Smoke Stake« Last post by CyberNZ on November 07, 2024, 01:36:36 pm »Hi we based in New Zealand so can not get replacement parts here.
We bought a Winter Wonderland Express RTP Train Set (7-12086) last week and were so excited to put it under our tree. Yes we put our tree up in Nov so we can have holiday cheer for much longer. The train works great but there is no smoke. This is Vapour Smoke so only needs water. I contacted Lionel, only to be told that they can not help in NZ. The person who sold it to us has no more and had imported it so do not want to just give it back as for this one issue the train still works. I need to know if anyone has had this issue or can help me troubleshoot it to get it to work. I do have some technical skills so could open it to see if there is an issue but would like to know if anyone else has done this before I do. All help welcome. |
