Lionel Maintenance & Repair / NEW TO THE FORUM HOPING FOR AN EASY FIX
« Last post by taman88 on November 03, 2025, 11:57:06 am »
hi! my father had purchased my son a Lionel New York Central electric train set probably a decade ago. He had stopped using it at xmas for years and decided this year to take it out. It's all set up, but the whistle and bell buttons aren't working (I almost recall it only being able to do the whistle function). The direction button works and haven't tried the smoke since I currently don't own any. Any suggestions? I'm no train novice so I'd have to attempt a repair as a first of it's kind ha. I believe the train model is 6-30156.

Beginners Q & A / Replacement Scout Couplers
« Last post by Mapka on November 02, 2025, 02:26:23 pm »
I recently acquired a 1953-1954 Scout train. I worked on the locomotive and got it running. Several of the detachable couplers on the cars are deteriorated. I was wondering if they make replacements?
I am new to the hobby and would appreciate any assistance that you can offer.
Thank you, Mark

I am in the process of refurbishing the Lionel 1041 transformer from my childhood pre-war Lionel train set that my brother and I played hard with.  Somewhere along the way, we removed the Reversing switch, the one with the red push button, and I want to replace it with whatever will work.  Therefore, I need to know how it was wired.  Any help, please.  Karl in Warren, MI

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Repairing Lionel No: 1045 Flagman
« Last post by Loco1664 on August 05, 2025, 02:08:02 pm »
My Lionel #1045 Flagman took a beating back in the 1940's when my brother and I were kids.  I just found my old Lionel train set along with this Lionel accessory that was wrapped up Detroit newspapers, The Detroit Times, dated December 1954, packed away in my basement!  That was a long time ago and now I would like to get that old train set out and working for our great grandsons to enjoy like my brother and I did years ago. The 1045 Flagman that is made from plastic, is broken from its metal stand, opened up exposing the right arm with a metal shaft and weight.  All electrics are missing.  I would like to know what these were so I can replace them.  I suspect a solenoid or some such thing that I could make could work.  Any ideas or best yet, a photo of what was inside of the Flagman.  I have everything else in the base including the 1045C tract connector.  My brother would be proud!  Thanks guys, Karl

I have a Lionel Atlantic 4-4-2 Milwaukee Road locomotive, paired with a Lionel tender marked “2671W-6” and “THE MILWAUKEE RAILROAD”.  The tender and locomotive each have a single wire tether that connect the two.
(I have a Lionel type RW transformer (speed/voltage control, Direction and Whistle buttons).
When the two are tethered, and the locomotive is moving, the tender produces chuffing sounds.
Does anyone recognize the type of tender circuit board?  Should it be capable of producing a whistle sound?
Here’s what I know -
The transformer speed control produces variable AC voltages as expected.
The Whistle button doesn’t result in a whistle sound; while pressed it increases AC by ~2.0 V, and adds ~0.5 V DC.
I’ve tried adjusting each of the 2 blue variable resisters, but it had no effect on the chuffing sound, and still no whistle.
Any suggestions for getting a working whistle would be appreciated.

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / 8690 Trolley wheels freeze
« Last post by kars2026at10 on May 11, 2025, 07:51:51 pm »
I have a Lionel an 8690 Trolley, it was running great up to a couple of weeks ago.  The trolley started to stop suddenly in one direction. It appears there is a bind in the wheels.   I cleaned and serviced the motor, checked for bent axels, put new brushes in and lubricated it as per manual.  It still stops in one direction but runs great in the other.  The wheels still lock up as though there is bind in the motor, axels or gears, but I cannot find anything out of alignment.  Does anybody have any suggestion?

Lionel Maintenance & Repair / Lionel N&W J 600 Tender Wiring
« Last post by cyberskald on April 06, 2025, 05:28:14 pm »
Recently picked up a Lionel TMCC N&W J Class 600 that needs the 6 pin connector rewired. I checked for the diagrams online, but I couldn't seem to locate what I need for it. If anyone can send me a wiring diagram of the 6 pin connector or send a picture of their 6 pin connector, it would be greatly appreciated!
