If your signal is new and from a lionel dealer. I would send it to lionel for warranty repair and you need to call lionel and get a RA number.

Sounds like you have engine problems. I would remove shell and take motors out and remove old grease and regrease and if it has pullmor motor i would clean motor up real good with electric contact cleaner  and clean brushes and clean old grease out as well and regrease.

Let your engine break in see what happens and you could have your wires switched on your track. Make sure red wire to center rail and black wire to outside rail.

I use yellow reflective tape. You should be able to buy it a lowes or wal-mart any hardware store and also if you have your sensor knob turned up there maybe a problem with your 153IR not sure with not any more info.

There is a sensor knob under little silver flip up box on the 153IR . Turn your sensor up til train detects it. A lot of cars are dark colored and some engines are to and plus some engines set up to high the 153IR won't pick it up. What i do set up the 153IR on a  block of wood or use reflective tape on my engines so the 153IR will pick up engine . The cars once turn sensor up not have to do anything to them.

You need to add 15 to 20 drops of smoke fluid and disreguard what the manual says lionel needs to correct that. Your plastic tube is for putting right amount of smoke fluid in your engine. You may turn sounds off and listen if your fan is running.

Sometimes the couplers are uneven most not hurt anything not unless uneven bad but if your coupler opening up not sure about the lionel passenger cars they should have coupler pin looks like a thump tack take that off and bend upward a little and could you give me the lionel item no. so i can look it up get some ideas.

I would put feeder wires every 3 feet and don't crimp rail. I did that does not work very well. Your better to bend the center pins and also lionel been having trouble with lighted fastrack bumpers if you haven't joined this site alot of info and also doing HO as well http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/
