What Did I Buy?!?
« on: February 11, 2021, 10:08:21 am »
I live in Mexico and constantly check Amazon.com.mx for trains. Late at night, a new ad appeared. It was a Lionel remote-controlled John Deere mini-train, at the promotional price of $50 US, with free shipping. Because these ads disappear rapidly, I bought one immediately.

The next day I learned that it does not really contain a remote control. I cannot find out what gauge it is, but if it is HO, its hooked couplings are compatible with several of my HO railcars. Customer reviews rave about its high quality, while complaining angrily that it is not remote-controlled as advertised. And I cannot find it on the Lionel site.

I'll find out on Monday what I bought.

That's the one. It was issued on October 1, 2020 and appears to be a one-time object. Amazon .com often transfers stuff it can't get rid of to Amazon.com.mx, which is how I got it.

Incidentally, I can find nothing on the internet about actual John Deere railcars or locomotives, but several companies have made John Deere model trains. Lionel has made far over half of the different John Deere railcars and locomotives.

Amazon.com.mx introduced a Lionel Polar Express mini-train that is almost identical to this one, but it costs about $100 US. I got my John Deere mini-train at the promotional price of $50 US, so I guess I shouldn't complain (too much).

l have the larger scale version of the Polar Express.. (not really large scale - play scale?)
Anyway, it gets dug out at christmas for the tree then back in the box.
its the Hudson version of the locomotive, not the F- 3/7 version.
l have considered adapting it to track power, but for the amount of use it gets, not worth the time to do it...

IF l had children around, it most certainly would be the sacrificial train for them to play with....
