Recommendation on how to sell a Lionel Collection
« on: November 06, 2020, 10:06:49 am »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this question. Sorry if it's Not.

Over the past several years my father has been buying out old mom and pop Lionel Train shops/repair shops. His health and life has been turned upside down with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma.  His collection of Lionel Trains currently has over to 4,500 pre and post war matching engine and tenders, over 7,000 box cars, cabooses, ect, and every conceivable repair part Lionel produced. He even has several copies of Lionel's factory repair manuals for many of the trains that I have never seen anywhere in my life.

How would you recommend going about selling such a huge collection? I get lost every time I look at this collect with what to do.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!
My prayer's for your father.

lt is difficult to find yourself in your situation,
with your fathers' horde to dispose of during
this time of pandemic.
There are firms that will outright purchase
or sell on consignment as well as  Auction houses
and Train dealers.
First you will need to inventory everything before
contacting anyone, so they will know what you are offering.
lf possible, look at Greenburgs' guide to get an idea of the value(retail) of the trains
. Unless you sell each item
individually, yourself,  you can expect much less.
Currently it's a buyers market & high $ values of
the 80's & 90's are history.
You can also post for sale on the various O scale train sites.
Good Luck!
Happy Rails!
