Post War vs Modern Locos Power Needs?

Hi, a grandpa here that is able to setup his 1960's Lionel 2065 Hudson set.  Have KW transformer.  During 1990's bought K-LINE items including locos such as S-2, S-15, etc.  When I am wired for  the Lionel Hudson, the loco performs as it should.  BUT, when a K-LINE loco is set on the track, it races off at the speed of light when the throttle breaks open.  Am I going to be plagued with this behavior?  Or, should I get a modern transformer to connect when running the locos from the 1990's.  I have been out-of-touch with the power dynamics here.  Thank you.

Newer locomotives typically have modern can motors in them that use much less power, thus using the voltage you are used to for your postwar will cause them to rocket off the track, kinda like a slot car! I have the same issue with my prewar vs postwar as the technology of the engines made in the 20's vs the late 40's mid 50's also resulted in a reduced need for power. You get used to it after a while.

Thank you.  I had my KW transformer refurbished.  While the newer engine still rocket, I was able to find a "low end" on the throttle to allow me to operate with the newer engines.
