Where to begin troubleshooting?
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:01:28 am »
Hey everyone,

Very new to all of this, so thanks in advance for your patience.  I inherited a Lionel train set from my wifes' late grandfather and am having issues getting things fully up and running.  This set has been sitting dormant for ~30 years.  The only thing I know for sure is that I have a ZW 275 watt transformer that seems to be operating correctly (signal/accessories tested ok.  Need to replace voltmeter to verify).  When I put the engine on a small strip of "test track" sometimes it works, but its loud, almost like a grinding sound.  When I move the power over to an oval track assembly, I get absolutely nothing from it.

Is there a particular place I can start troubleshooting (transformer, train engine, the track itself?)  The engine I have is blue, white, and gray and says Wabash #2367 on it.

Thanks everyone in advance for the assistance!
