milk car/coal dump controller track questions
« on: December 11, 2019, 02:41:52 pm »
hi ... just joined this forum.     Trying to get back into the hobby.    I bought a milk car and coal dump car ... and a 5 rail track (UCS-6) and 2 button controller.     Hooked everything up and if i turn up the throttle on the transformer, all works just fine.    But I realize that the throttle needs to be turned up to create power to operate these accessories.    So I tried to wire to the 14 volt A and C terminals on the transformer for fixed voltage.   Again, works fine.     But then I realize that with a locomotive, even with the throttle off, a little power seems to be leaking through.     It would seem it would be desirable then to modify the controller track so physically disconnect any connection between the 4 wires and the rails so there is no possibility of interference.    Any idea how this can be done?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

What transformer are you using?

Here is the wiring diagram for the remote/uncoupling track.

It sounds like you may have it wired incorrectly, as no accessory voltage to operate the track should leak through to the running rails.

There should be no problem hooking up your LW transformer as you stated. If you still have a problem, re-check the wiring to the uncoupling/unloading track according to the diagram posted.
Make sure nothing is shorting out underneath it.

Also double check the wiring to the controller. Make sure the wiring is in good condition and not  frayed. Open it up and make sure no wires are touching inside, and that the contacts are working properly.
