Help with Lionmaster Big Boy
« on: November 28, 2020, 01:00:55 pm »
I have owned the older Lionmaster TMCC Big Boy model for a few years and have had problems operating it in conventional control with the Lionel C-80 transformer. At low speeds the model becomes erratic. It jerks forward, stops, and then repeats like this until about 50% power is applied. Then it smooths out and runs fine at medium to high speed. Is this simply due to lower voltage from the transformer at low speeds? I have not seen this mentioned anywhere.

I haven't had a layout in years but I'm trying to set some of my stuff up for Christmas. Just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with my model.

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!
You must have a pretty big Christmas tree to run a Big Boy around it...

Common problem with low power available using an analog transformer on a tmcc train.
These digital systems are made to receive full power to the track constantly. When using the lower voltage you approach stall speed(jerking, erratic action, etc) durring start up or low speed operation..
so.......
go back to using original tmcc power system, continue to use as is(make sure switch is in conventional operation position), or tear out the digital electronics and convert it to an analog  operation train....

Happy Rails!
