Hello & Welcome to the Forum!

I can relate..  Tho l gave my trains to a nephew when l got drafted instead of having them stolen...
40+ years later l too hunted up my first electric train set.  It took some time, but eventually i did it.
Finding replacements can be time consuming, hunting online auctions, sales sites and online forums.
Eventually you will find what you're looking for.  Fortunately, the prices of rolling stock have declined overall,
so relocating them shouldn't put you on beans & rice....
