Lionel Scout 2034 suddenly stopped working properly

My Lionel Scout loco 2034 suddenly stopped working properly in forward, although it goes full out in reverse. In forward it just hums or slowly stutters forward. I've taken it apart to look for loose wires, and cleaned the wheels, rollers and track, but nothing helps. What else should I be looking for?

I'm not sure if you read the reply cwburfle or teledoc gave you on the other site you posted your question concerning your 2034.
My only addition to their replies would be to replace the entire e unit if their fixes didn't solve the problem.
