General Lionel Model Train Discussion / Overland Flyer Clicking

Hey everyone, I'm new to O scale and I purchased a Lionel Overland Flyer set. I noticed when operating the locomotive forward, there is a synchronized mechanical clicking/tapping. When operating in reverse it can't be heard. Is this normal?
