General Lionel Model Train Discussion / Newby - Lionel pre-war or post-war?
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:37:50 pm »
Hello, this morning while going through an estate I saw 2 large wooden boxes that contain a Lionel set from the early 1940´s I believe (based on some of the documents I was able to read).
This was not yet for sale since the executioners are truing to sell paintings and furniture first and have not yet finished cataloguing and pricing everything. They reluctantly showed me some pieces and was able to take a few pictures.
Can you please help me identify these and maybe place a value to it?
Attached are pictures of the 2 things I was able to photograph. I also saw a partial inventory, and the set includes at least 15 different cars (pullmans, tankers, caboose, etc) and 2 engines, 115 straights, 50 curves, numerous other controls and ancillaries.
The engine in the pictures is almost certainly post war, but some of the documentation I saw was dated 1940.
I know I am giving very little info to go by, but I'd like to know if this is something worth pursuing. Everything looked in excellent shape, but no boxes unfortunately
Thank you
