General Lionel Model Train Discussion / FasTrack Remote SW issues
« on: August 25, 2011, 12:01:41 am »
My new layout utilizes the FasTrack system.  It contains 8 FasTrack remotes consisting of 6 072 and 2 036 switches.  My question is the quality of the products.  One 072 was non operational from the start and was repaired by a local Lionel shop.  The second problem was during operational use when the engine is entering the input side of the switch and the the switch is set to turn.  It was found that the swing rail was not holding firm agains the fixed rail which in turn derailed the engine upon entry.  Since the switch was already installed in the system it had to be fixed in place.  An investigation showed that the shift mechanism was hitting a stop preventing the swing rail from making firm contact with the fixed rail.  Only fix was to take a dremmel tool with a sanding wheel and grind down the stop about 2mm.  This solved the problem.  It was also noted that on six of the 8 switches the swing rail is quite loose and bends easily so hard swing contact to the fixed rails is nerely impossible.

Question:  I assume this is a quality control and inspection problem for these prodcuts. Quite possibly a design flaw exists as well.   Have any other users had difficultiy with derailing issues with the FasTrack Remote Switches?
