Postwar Lionel Trains 1945-1969 / Using giraffe car operating mechanism on fast track

I have the  Lionel operating giraffe car from the 1960's.  Can anyone tell me if and how to utilize the operating mechanism with fast track.  I also have the operating milk and cattle cars.  Just can't seem to figure out how to use with the new fast track...thanks
