General Lionel Model Train Discussion / Lionel flying Yankee whistle
« on: February 10, 2024, 12:02:46 pm »
Does anyone have a wiring diagram or explanation as to how the flying Yankee whistle connects to the engine etc. I just bought a flying Yankee prewar set on on eBay everything works. I appear to have a ground connection but need a connection to the center rail somehow for the whistle. thank you. Removed whistle from engine and works perfectly including relay appear to be missing a wire connection somewhere

Dave  I appreciate the info I actually have seen this link still having trouble. I have been able to remove roofs no problem from the Chicago Aberdeen cars etc by cutting those white tabs. The roof on the Roosevelt observation car is different than these because of the observation deck. I have cut all 6 white tabs and it won’t budge also tried pressing the windows. Any other suggestions? Thanks mark

Hi there was wondering how to get roof off of these cars from what I have read other places cut the 6 white tabs and then use a butter knife to pry roof off. Still having trouble any help is appreciated. This is for Roosevelt campaign observations car no trouble getting roof off the other cars

Hello: I am having an issue with my 671 turbine smoke unit. When engine is in neutral the smoke unit gets hot and when I put it in gear it puffs smoke for about 5-10 seconds then stops. The smoke unit does not seem to stay hot enough to burn the smoke when the engine is running (I think testing it with my fingers). I bought a new smoke unit on ebay that is reconditioned liquid smoke conversion from the pellets for the turbine engines. I connected it with good soldering added smoke fluid and I am having the same problem/issue compared to the original smoke unit. I am baffled. I even tried moving the power source connection to another contact point on the locomotive for the smoke unit and still having same issue. I also took out the old wire for the smoke unit and soldered in an all new copper wire no improvement. Any help much appreciated. I also have a 2020 turbine, identical to the 671 essentially. The 2020 original smoke unit works fine I have compared the two and all connections are the same. I don't see anything different or anything that I am missing.

Thank you

Thank you very much I do see the screw here is the issue this engine was mint in box till I bought it a few months ago never run. It ran beautifully and I of course lubbed it prior. After being in the box for so long I can’t loosen that screw probably some corrosion or over tightened at the factory. I have tried wd40 putting a wet rag at the tip of my screw driver etc. that screw won’t budge. Any suggestions before I drill it out very carefully.

Thanks
