General Lionel Model Train Discussion / Looking for an unbiased evaluation of my father's Lionel Trains
« on: July 28, 2019, 05:24:52 pm »
Hello all, thanks for having me. This is not a sale thread, or anything of the kind. My father was born in 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and collected certain Lionel Trains.
He and my mother are moving to a 55 and older community, and came upon his trains in their efforts to clear out and reduce the amount of stuff that they have.
My Mother took a few pictures of the trains without the boxes, and saw an advertisement in the local paper about a guy buying trains. They were sent to him (he snapped back with an offer within a few hours) but I asked them to hold up, as I'd like to check with experts as to the worth.
I don't know trains myself, but I've been a sports card collector since I was a teen, and know the value of a Ripken PSA 10 Rookie vs. a David Justice PSA 10 rookie. I also know as a collector in general, having boxes increases the value.
I'm going to link a lot of pictures to this thread, and if you fellas could let me know what you think a fair market value for them would be, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't want my folks to get ripped off.
Thanks again.
Best,
