Title: Lionel Polar Express Liquid Smoke Mess?
Post by: OGTrainOprt1225 on November 03, 2019, 10:10:47 am
Hello. First post. I recently purchased a Lionel O Gauge Polar Express train set. All works great, got it set up and tested out for Christmas the kids are really excited.

One thing I noticed after about 10-15 minutes was there was spots of a clear liquid on the track. It made me think it must be the liquid smoke. I was concerned I put too many drops into the unit (its hard to tell if you have over filled it or where its at) so after cleaning it up I figured I would pop the metal casing off the locomotive and take a look.

Inside at the front of the unit the liquid smoke stack is very clearly visible. there is a little loose piece that I believe when the train is moving is what pushes in and out of the oil housing to cause the spoke to "puff" with the motion of the train. Well that is very "wet" with a oil all around it and little drops coming off.

I guess my question is a) is that normal, b) what happens when you overfill the smoke unit, and/or c) how should I fix it?

It looks like the smoke unit is well separated from the electronics now days which is great. It also looks like if you could source the part replacement is easy. But its more getting on the tracks and all over stuff if that is ok or not?

Thanks.
