It looks sharp and it runs like a Deere, and that's about it for Lionel's John Deere mini-train. To my surprise, the "mini-train" is O-gauge, and it does have plenty of plastic, non-powered track.
The control on top of the locomotive offers "forward" without sound, "forward" with sound (very good quality, by the way) and "Off." There is no Reverse, and freshly-charged batteries do not make it go fast enough to jump the track.
Issued on October 1, 2020, it appears to be discontinued already.
My advice? Skip it.

Sometimes we just have to look at them as future bashing stock. Friend gives you an old frame with a good motor and it is a close fit to the shell on the JD loco... You have a sudden inspiration to go Jackon Pollock on a piece of rollingstock... Decide to finally do the Gomez Addams layout & wreck... Decide it time to recreate the Snow Piercer and the JD set as donor.... Someone gives you a windup motor.....
It's all good, just a chance to express your creativity...
Good fodder for future experimantation.
Happy Rails!

The worst part about Dave's post is that it makes sense.
