Title: Model T Transformer help

Hello, I just purchased a Lionel Model T transformer at a flea market,
and need some help in testing it to see if it works. I can only
read three of ten the nut's labeling., ie. "G", "H", and "U".

How would I test this transformer with a multimeter?
AC or DC output?

Thanks for any help on nut labeling or testing.
