Thanks for the suggestion ChiefMcFuz! Ordered a post-war book today off of Abebooks today as well as some Greenberg's and McComas/Tuohy pre and postwar.

That should get me going for awhile.

You should pick up the Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains books. They are a great reference for dates and variations etc.

New to this forum and new to collecting Lionel in my advanced years though having received my very first Lionel train set 55 years ago.

I was looking at engine numbers and was wondering if there is a definitive guide to year of manufacture etc.?
