Mike
Hello and Welcome to the Forum!

Here's a quote from another site in reply to your question:
"Buy a bridge rectifier from Radio Shack. Should be less than two dollars. You will get forward only, unless you install a DPDT switch for manual reverse.."

Seems to me to be the least expensive fix.

Happy Rails!

Title: 8769 Train Set Switcher mid-1990's

I bought a mid-90's # 8769 Republic Steel switcher that is apparently out of a set.  It is a DC - powered loco.  I have an AC layout.

I know I cannot run he DC loco on an AC layout.  I have (only) $25 in this and it is in good shape- I would keep it and run it if I could somehow convert it to run on AC.

But I can buy a NEW Lionchief controlled PRR switcher out of a set- for just over $100.  It would seem I can't justify much expense on the 8769.  Any thoughts??
