Here's a quote from another site in reply to your question:
"Buy a bridge rectifier from Radio Shack. Should be less than two dollars. You will get forward only, unless you install a DPDT switch for manual reverse.."
Seems to me to be the least expensive fix.

I bought a mid-90's # 8769 Republic Steel switcher that is apparently out of a set. It is a DC - powered loco. I have an AC layout.
I know I cannot run he DC loco on an AC layout. I have (only) $25 in this and it is in good shape- I would keep it and run it if I could somehow convert it to run on AC.
But I can buy a NEW Lionchief controlled PRR switcher out of a set- for just over $100. It would seem I can't justify much expense on the 8769. Any thoughts??
