Title: Bus/feeder question
Post by: jwimsett on December 12, 2016, 08:11:08 am
Good Morning,

I have a quick question about installing a few feeders to my son's fastrack layout.  Currently I have a track laid out that spans 8 feet in two directions with a loop in the middle, similar to this (http://pictures.trainz.com/articles/Fastra1.gif)

My son likes to have the train go very slow, which tends to turn into a stop as it gets further away from the transformer.  I added 2 jumpers across the crossover which helped a lot and lead me to researching power loss etc...and ultimately let me to this.

I want to put two bus lines coming from the transformer (which would be in the corner) and run them 25' (down the edge, around the turn and back through the crossover.) I was planning on doing two separate parallel bus wires going in either direction and meeting in the middle.  I was planning on using 14AWG for the bus and 18AWG for the feeders and putting 3 or 4 per bus.  Do you think that would be adequate?  I have the suitcase connectors to connect the feeders, but would be welcome to something smaller and more streamline as this setup only sits on the floor during the holidays and the connectors don't fit under the track.

His train is Frosty the Snowman LionChief
All of the track is fastrack
The transformer is mth z-1000

Thank you
