Replying to my own post: by pressing the motor back toward the cab, the knurled head of the thru bolt became more accessible and my son the engineer was able to turn the screw and finally free the motor. Now for some seriously overdue maintenance.

Need help! Removal was simple up to the point where the motor was ready to fall out of the main body, but was hung up by a brass screw through from the cab. There is no phillips or straight slot. It appears to be a flat knurled screw head that is depressed in a small circular indention. I can't turn the screw with either needle nosed or flat nosed pliers. How can I get the motor out?
