Fellow Lionel Collectors , just wondering how many of you have ever seen the 9723 WP box car from the 1973 Canadian Pacific Service Station Set with a BLUE FEATHER , yes Blue feather on the 9723 WP box car . Back in late 1972 my self my dad and brother were attending the train show at the American Legion in Hasbrouck Heights NJ , one of the table holders had 3 of the Canadian Pacific Service Station Sets , 2 still sealed and the 3rd being open for display and low and behold there in the set was the Blue Feather WP box car , the car was orange but the feather was not Silver as they were produced .
Seems this gentleman had pre-production sets , guess Lionel was going to make the WP just like the original 6464 but for who knows why they made the feather silver for the regular production , we have had 5 sets of the Canadian Pacific F-3 Service Station Sets all with silver feather WP box cars , all thru the years attending most of the big train shows here in Pa. , NY and NJ I have never seen the 9723 WP Box Car with a Blue Feather . When we bought our first SSS we were surprised that the WP did not have a Blue Feather on it , only to find out that the Silver Feather was the norm for this set , wish I had bought my set back in 1972 from that guy in Hasbrouck Heights , that car today is super rare .
