I figured out it's the transformer.  Borrowed a friend's and everything works.

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like there is a short in the track. Diassemble the track and start with only the terminal track. Power it up and put a lighted car on it and see what happens. If it is OK, then add one track at a time and check again. Continue adding track until the red light comes on. That is the bad track.

Hi everyone.  I just purchased an O scale Polar Express with the LionChief controller.  When the track is connected, the red light on the terminal track is steady red.  When I place the engine on the track, the red light blinks and the engine's headlight blinks and nothing works.  So I removed the engine and placed one of the passenger cars on the track.  The red light again starts to blink and the interior light in the car blink.  No where in the instructions does it mention blinking LEDs.  Can anyone help?  Thanks
