Try this, Josh:

Go to any search engine and type in something like 1938 Lionel train catalog. You'll find that most old train catalogs are published for free online.

I should point out that identical cars (although painted differently) appeared in different sets, and some cars were manufactured for several years.

Hello all. Can anyone recommend a catalog or book that shows the complete sets of prewar Lionel standard gauge? Trying to go through my grandfather’s collection and see what locomotives went with the sets. Thank you.
