Selling My Dad's Lionel Trains 1944-late 1950's

Where Should i Sell My Trains?

My father passed away in 2006 & i was left his very large collection of lionel trains 1944-late 1950's. his collection consists of locomotives (about 8) & rolling stock (arnd 2 dozen) (all cars still in their boxes), track (2 lg boxes), transformers (3) & every other accessory you can think of. it's difficult to think of letting this collection go. i remember my dad's stories spent as the bat boy & eventually club house manager for the baltimore orioles... he'd save all his earnings to buy his prized trains. unfortunately i have no place to set them up & i know someone could appreciate the magic of this fabulous collection more than myself.

i've researched prices on ebay & collector's books. i've photographed many of the trains from multiple angles but still have a lot to go. i've considered ebay, auction houses & now i find myself here on a train forum hoping for some direction. i know trains have significantly depreciated in value but hoping to make a fair price & find someone to love them as much as he did. any insight is most appreciated...

Welcome to the forum.
Selling your trains depends upon what items you have, their condition, and the demand for what you have. Clean the items before you photograph them. Looking at various auctions is a good thing to educate yourself with the prices of items in various conditions. If there are any hobby shops in your area, see if they are interested in your items. The same with any local train clubs. See if there are any upcoming train shows near your area also. This forum has a classified section that you can easily post the numbers of the items you have, to give an idea of what you have. You may find that you may have to sell individual items, rather than the whole lot as one.
