Best way to appraise
« on: February 21, 2019, 05:10:19 pm »
Hey guys I am new to the forum. My father was an AVID Lionel train collector. When he passed away I inherited his collection. I myself have never been a train enthusiast but non the less I am now the proud owner of a 300+ pc collection. I have absolutely no idea how much the collection is worth. I am trying to gauge the value of his collection, not for sale reasons, but just to get a grasp on what I am currently storing in my house. Would a train store be able and willing to come over and do an appraisal? And if so, could they be trusted? Or would an independent appraiser be a better option? Or another option I am not thinking of? I am very curious

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!

You are facing a problem many who inherit trains encounter.
lf you are curious for your own information yoi can purchase Greenberg Guides and look up their value.
You can also view the various online auction sited and average sold/completed sale prices.
If it is for insurance purposes, contact your insurance agent and discuss it with tjem. They may have an appraiser they use or could recomend.
A train shop may help you with this.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Happy Rails!
