Hello Everyone,
My name is Joe and I live in Cleveland TN but spent most of my life in SW Michigan. I was into trains when I was a kid, well as much as a kid could afford, and I kept my trains in a box all these years. Nothing real fancy, I still have my Lionel GT (Grand Trunk) from the late seventies and a much older Sante Fe with the round nose.
Now I am a grandfather and would like to introduce my grandkids to model railroading. But I want to go big. I am building a 20 x 36 workshop and I want to put a track up high around the interior, much like you see in some restaurants, but I do not know where to begin. I can do the construction part of things easy enough but I'm guessing you can get track in really long sections. I'm sure a lot has changed in 45 years and would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thank you all,
Joe
Hello,
Well that depends on the track system: 027, Lionel Fastrack, Atlas..etc. Most systems have 30 inch track sections(may be a bit more, but not too much) as the longest track. Not sure about tubular track but I believe those are in the 35-40 inch range. Either way it will require quite a few sections to go around your walls. I have a Lionel Fastrack layout and 30 inches is the longest section.
Thank you dbat77,
The scale is O27, I will keep looking. Thanks Again,
Joe
