Welcome to the forum!

The Legacy Command set is what is needed to get started.

From there, you can purchase any Legacy locomotive or complete Legacy sets.

Hi Larry
With the Legacy Command, I can power the train plus the tracks and some accessories. Or do I need something else

Here is the owners' manual for the Legacy system,
https://www.lionelsupport.com/media/servicedocuments/6122LegacyV13FinalF9B6A0F4.pdf

and here is a video describing the setup of the system.

You need a power supply in addition to the legacy system.

Legacy locomotives can be programmed and run on any 3 rail '0' gauge track.
